As parents, we want nothing but the best for our children. Some days we have wins, and some days we cut our losses, but it’s important to stick with the aspects of parenting that are most important to your child’s development. One of those aspects is giving children responsibilities, or chores. Having chores is a crucial part of a child’s life. These responsibilities open them up for success in many areas of their development that will be carried on throughout their life, such as confidence, independence, cooperation, accountability, and strong worth ethic.

When given a task, children will want to master it in order to feel grown up. Having the awareness that they are capable of accomplishing something they couldn’t do before will skyrocket their confidence. How many times have we heard “I did it!” from a little one with an enormous smile? This is a true example of them showing pleasure in taking care of themselves and others. If we do not provide these opportunities for accomplishment, we tend to see the flip side where “I can’t do it” is often heard without a display of any effort. They may feel incapable of taking care of themselves simply because they were never given a chance to. Therefore, providing chores can be beneficial to a child’s confidence.
